While at Greenberg, Glusker, Fields, Claman and Machtinger in the early 1990's, Peter provided environmental support to the firm's distinguished real estate practice. As a result, he gained experience with the legal issues affecting a wide range of real estate transactions. He also became an expert in structuring deals on properties with contamination issues, and in guiding environmental due diligence. At Unocal, he represented a business unit tasked with selling a portfolio of properties, most with a history of environmental contamination, ranging from former service station sites to former oil fields, from office buildings to the site of the world's only shale oil upgrade facility.
His solo practice continues to address a broad range of transactions involving both contaminated and clean properties. He represents clients in purchase and sale transactions on a wide variety of properties, including service stations and industrial properties. These deals have included many "brownfields" properties, some of which have still been in the cleanup process at the time of the transactions. He also advises clients purchasing and selling properties in known Superfund areas. On the leasing side, he handles commercial and industrial leases involving a broad range of facilities, including office, retail and industrial space, as well as ground leases for service stations and retail facilities. |
